Welcome to the Technology Design Team Weekly Lessons Learned! This will be a recurring feature on Friday afternoons where the Technology Design Team will share top of mind resources and learning. Each week, we will post a few key things we hope you may find useful. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Some of the content may be specific to the realities of Austin ISD though, we hope, much will be useful to viewers worldwide.

The Technology Design Team is excited to announce our 5th Annual Blended Learning Summit (bit.ly/blsummit2021) via Zoom on Saturday, March 6, 2021, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and in the afternoon from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Join us for a day of learning and collaboration to support both our current contexts and moving forward! Austin ISD teachers and Technology Design Coaches will share stories, strategies, and skills to support personalization and blended learning for both academics and the whole child. Participants will choose their own learning path of sessions based on their interests and needs.
Participants may register for the morning, afternoon, or both.

The Newsela/BLEND integration is now available to all teachers/students in grades 3-12!
To access Newsela, you will need to enable the “Newsela (Subscription)” link in each desired BLEND course. Go to Settings, choose the Navigation tab at the top, find Newsela (Subscription), click the three dots and choose + Enable. Be sure to click Save at the bottom of the page! You can see how to enable Newsela in a BLEND course in this short video (44 sec).

What is the easiest way for a teacher to save a photo as a pdf?
The Chrome browser is an easy way to save photos to PDF.
Drag a photo into a Chrome window, you go do Print>Save as PDF

I’m not sure if I have the latest version of Zoom. Is there a way to tell?
In this “How to Update Your Zoom Client” video, the first option shows you how to check for Zoom updates. If you are having technical issues and have already updated your Zoom client and switched to Zoom for AISD, then you can send a request for Zoom support directly on their site.
New features introduced on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1:
- A new Chromebook ‘app’ is now “live”. When launching meeting, cancel app and open in Browser. The Progressive Web App is supposed to be a better experience for chromebooks and will add more features there to gain some parity with Mac/Win apps.
- New Share and Play within the Zoom share control lets the host play video directly from desktop. Up to 1080p quality, improved speed when not playing video from host’s shared desktop screen.
I am looking for ways to structure collaboration in breakout rooms. What collaboration structures do you recommend, and what examples of classroom application can you share?

My registrar made changes in TEAMS/Frontline. When will I see these roster changes made in BLEND, Seesaw, and other district-rostered systems?
Roster changes that happen in TEAMS by about 5:00 PM should be reflected in BLEND the next day or within 24 to 48 hours.
If you are experiencing issues with rostering after the initial 24 to 48 hours, enter a ServiceNow ticket.
My students had a schedule change. How do I help them rearrange the BLEND Dashboard?
With new courses comes the need to rearrange their BLEND Dashboards.
