Weekly Lessons Learned Update

Welcome to the Technology Design Team Weekly Lessons Learned! This will be a recurring feature on Friday afternoons where the Technology Design Team will share top of mind resources and learning. Each week, we will post a few key things we hope you may find useful. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Some of the content may be specific to the realities of Austin ISD though, we hope, much will be useful to viewers worldwide.

The Weekly Lessons Learned Archive contains a list of topics from and links to previous updates.

general information

My students are loving Minecraft! How might they demonstrate their learning with video?

Using Minecraft: Education Edition as a teaching tool is enhanced by the idea that students can screen capture their world to demonstrate the lesson objectives through student-narrated video. This video entitled “Students Can Use Screencastify To Make A Video Of Their World For Their Teacher” is in the Minecraft: Education Edition training course. Encourage staff to self-enroll at http://bit.ly/aisdminecraft .

How can my students record a video of their Chromebook screen?

The same Screencastify Chrome extension staff can install can now be installed by students. The YouTube video, How To Install Screencastify In AISD, is a student-facing video that shows how to install this extension and access the video recording tool.

I’ve signed up for the Minecraft: Education Edition BLEND course and still need ideas for lessons. Where can I find age-appropriate and content-specific Minecraft lessons for my students?

You can find ready-made lessons at Minecraft: Education Edition’s lesson page.

How can I customize the message and icon on my Zoom waiting room for participants?

Learn how to do so by watching this video on how to customize your Zoom waiting room. More information can be found in the article “Waiting Room” from the official Zoom guides.
